American Idol Watch #5: Los Angeles Auditions

Big Bird Lady is in the House!
Last night’s episode of American Idol wasn’t too memorable, save one contestant: Big Bird Lady. When I first saw her, I thought she was from a Cuban version of Sesame Street with her bright yellow, feathered shirt and hat. However, her strangeness didn’t end with her outfit though as she seemed to speak in the style of a five year old girl. The whole situation was almost too much to handle. Then we found out she was actually 50 years old!
The fact that a 50 year old was able to try out for a show that only allows contestants 16-28 shows that American Idol’s screening process really isn’t up to par. Though I am not well versed in Idol’s screening process, I believe that some changes need to be made. Actually, my contact at PeopleFinders.com, Josh Margolis, had an interesting suggestion on the subject. “Why not have a people finder company screen contestants at the auditions. It wouldn’t be hard to take their database information and move it to almost any location,” Margolis told me on a conference call last night. Not a bad idea.
