American Idol Watch #6: Los Angeles Auditions

I Hate to Say it but….Sit Down Sherman!

Well the latest installment of American Idol really was a snore. In fact, the regular weirdos that fill the auditions seemed to be in short supply. However, the Los Angeles auditions episode did have its share of drama created solely by Sherman, a 64 year old contestant.

Before Sherman performed, producers told his story of why he was trying to be the next American Idol. Though he had a touching story on why he was trying out for a show that he was obviously too old for, he may have been the “straw the broke the camel’s back” when it comes to who tries out for future Idol shows. Now that the show’s age limit has become irrelevant, older contestants who feel that they have a unique story to tell will now get the urge to try out. Next year’s Idol probably will be flooded with these contestants.

The bottom line is this: American Idol is a competition for 16-28 year olds because producers are looking for the next rising superstar. Though it is sad to say, Sherman’s star probably faded a long time ago and thus was a waste of the viewer’s time.
