Category: People Search Web Site

Hello all, my name is Rick Tufington and I am a frequent contributor to People Search News, located on assignment overseas (it sounds so cool to say that!). Each week, I will be reviewing a new people search site on the Web to help PSN readers find the most accurate and helpful sites for their people searches.

However, not every people search web site is looking out for their customers' best interests, thus my aim is for PSN readers to use my reviews as a guide to which sites to check out and which to stay clear of. The site that I am reviewing today is: WebSherlock.com

Site Overview

WebSherlock.com is a people search web site that contains numerous links to different people searches in one location.

All Roads Lead to Nowhere

At first glance, WebSherlock.com looks like it could be a very useful site with many helpful links. In fact, this site seems to have a link to every type of search that you could ever want to execute. Surprisingly, all of these links lead to the exact same checkout page. Thus, all of these links provide an image of a much more complete site than is actually the case. I, personally felt duped when I clicked on several links and ended up on the same page. Even sadder, there is a navigation tab on the site's home page that is titled "register" which leads to, you guessed it, the same checkout page.

Take My Money..Please

Once you get to that infamous checkout page (and you can't avoid ending up there), you are then forced to choose between two poor options to execute your people search: a $49.95 payment for a lifetime of unlimited searches, or a $39.95 payment for one year of unlimited searches. If you choose one of these options, then you are immediately taken to a payment screen. Unlike most people search web sites, there is no place to submit a name to see what type of results the site can provide. Thus, WebSherlock.com would like you to pay for a search report before you even know what is included in that report and how effective your search might be. In addition, WebSherlock.com seems to keep its search price high because the organization is not very confident that a user will come back. Therefore, why not charge higher rates under the guise of longer membership times?

More Sadness

To add insult to injury, WebSherlock.com has numerous hyper links that don't work. In addition, one of the site's most promising features, the FAQ section, is not helpful to searchers at all. Those expecting common questions and answers on how to conduct a successful people search will be let down when they see only instructions on how to use the site.

Spit it out Tufington! What do you think?

WebSherlock.com is an extremely low-budget attempt to capitalize on the increasing popularity of people search web sites. Any site that won't let you check out what it has to offer and tries to rush you to payment should be steered clear of. I would definitely stay away from this site and look for more legitimate options on the Web.
