Placeblogger.com launches: searchable index of local blogs
boingboing.net reports: What's a placeblog? A placeblog is an act of sustained attention to a particular place over time It can be done by one person, a defined group of people, or in a way that's open to community contribution It's not a newspaper, though it may contain random acts of journalism It's about the lived experience of a place. You can read the article in its entirety here.
El Dubleche is very fond of citizen journalists. Placeblogger.com is a great site that provides people with access to information they might never come across. Before taking your next road trip, look one of these bloggers up for some inside information on local hot spots.
A search guy for the "guided" search engine ChaCha.com gives a little something back to would be pranksters. ChaCha.com is the world's biggest live search site and has piad "guides" that to assist you in your Internet search. You can read this "guides" blog here.
Now, if there was only a way to get back at those fake bloggers. I would love to mess with all the people that leave comment SPAM on blogs or re-direct me when I hit a blogger page.
Mozilla Does Microformats: Firefox 3 as Information Broker
Read/WriteWeb.com reports on what could be released in Firefox 3.
"Much in the same way that operating systems currently associate particular file types with specific applications, future Web browsers are likely going to associate semantically marked up data you encounter on the Web with specific applications, either on your system or online. This means the contact information you see on a Web site will be associated with your favorite contacts application, events will be associated with your favorite calendar application, locations will be associated with your favorite mapping application, phone numbers will be associated with your favorite VOIP application, etc." You can read the whole article here.
This can not happen soon enough. Imagine of the information and time you could save if this is indeed implemented into FireFox. El Dubleche is getting anxious.
This is like placing a missing persons ad in your local paper. I am not sure at how effective it is, but it is still in BETA. However, People Search News has an account and is looking forward to seeing how popular this free people search engine becomes.
This reminds me a lot of the Craigslist "missed connections" thing. I am pretty sure that CL has this one on lock.
